Klaksvík
is the second largest town of the Faroe Islands with a population
of 4600 people. The town is located on the islands Borðoy,
which is one of the northernmost islands. Klaksvik was in April
2006 connected to the mainland via an 6300m underwater tunnel.
It connects the town of Leirvik on Eysturoy under the strait Leirviksfjordur
with the town of Klaksvík.
Klaksvik has
an annual festival which is called Nordoyastevna. It is held in
the beginning of June and is the second largest of the festivals
on the islands. Olavsoka in Torshavn is the largest one. Alcohol
was only legalised in the Faroe Islands in 1992 and the most popular
beer, ’Foroya Bjor’, is brewed in Klaksvik.
To
get to Klaksvik you can drive by car or catch the bus. The bus
runs to Torshavn Sunday to Friday upto 19.35 and on Saturday upto
